Why Interlock Needs Regular Resanding

Interlocking pavers are everywhere on newer builds across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, and the polymeric sand between the joints is doing more work than most homeowners realize — it locks the pavers in place, prevents shifting, and blocks weed growth. That sand washes out gradually from rain, snow melt and freeze-thaw cycling, and once enough is gone, weeds move in and pavers start to shift underfoot.

Typically $2–$4 per square foot depending on the condition of existing joints and how much old sand/debris needs removing first. A 400 sq ft patio runs roughly $800–$1,600.

How often does interlock need resanding?

Every 3–5 years for most residential installations, sooner if you're seeing visible gaps, weeds, or ant activity between the pavers.

Can you stop weeds from growing between pavers?

Properly applied polymeric sand is the main defence — it hardens and blocks weed seeds from germinating in the joints. Existing weeds are cleared as part of the resanding process.

Do you also fix sunken or uneven pavers?

Minor re-leveling of individual sunken pavers is offered as part of our network's services — ask for it to be included in your quote if you have problem spots.

What time of year is best for this work?

Spring through early fall (roughly April–October) — polymeric sand needs to cure in dry conditions, so it's scheduled around the weather forecast.
